Residents residing at the Welwitschia Senior Park, mainly rely on sponsorships from entities as a result of them living on a self-catering basis.
The Park, which is a state owned centre, has a long process whereby individuals wanting to become a resident are put on a waiting list. In total there are 60 units with about 75 people already residing in the units.
Their families are allowed to visit as any normal complex permit, however they may only stay for a period of two weeks per year, caretaker Freddy Diergaardt explains.
“We enjoy living here and want people to know we are happy. We are not in jail and we are not old, on the contrary we are young and gets angry when people call us old”, Diergaardt passionately said.
They have received much aid from private individuals, churches and big organisations and would like to express their gratitude for the assistance thus far.
