Walvis Bay taxi driver, Immanuel Kaibeb (30), appeared yesterday morning in the Walvis Bay Magistrates Court following his arrest on Friday morning for drug possession. He was released on bail of N$ 1000. His case was postponed until 31 May for legal aid.
Kaibeb, also known as Apies, was found in the possession of 50 crack cocaine “rocks” with a street value of N$ 6000-00.
When he was busted he allegedly abandoned the taxi he was driving in Sam Nujoma Avenue and tried to run away from the police but was eventually cornered in Sixth Street in front of the Hustler shop.
He discarded some of the crack cocaine rocks near a palm tree which were later picked up in his presence by the police.
The owner of the taxi, Junias Ekandjo approached the Namib Times newspaper yesterday morning and distanced himself from the Kaibeb's operations and his arrests.
He told the newspaper that he and Kaibeb signed a contract on 9 February 2010. “The contract clearly stipulates that Kaibeb should inform me first if he uses the car for any other business. “I was under the impression that he only operates that car as a taxi” Ekandjo said.
Namib Times is in the possession of a copy of the contract that was signed between Ekandjo and Kaibeb on 9 February 2010. |
