The Swakopmund community reels in shock and disbelief after a 16-year-old girl hung herself on a primary school’s playground on Sunday.
Two younger girls who went to the playground to play made the grim discovery.
The Grade 11, identified as Kaiyongua Venomambo, was found hanging by a rope from the frame of a swing on the playground. The rope was tied around her neck and a suicide note was found in one of the pockets of her pair of jeans she wore at the time of her suicide.
The suicide incident prompted the deployment of a team of officials and social workers of the Health Ministry to provide trauma counseling to people that were directly affected by the girl’s untimely death.
The Namibian Police in Erongo’s Crimes Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, confirmed the incident.
