48-year-old man behind bars for hit and run

A case of drunken driving, reckless or negligent driving, and failing to ascertain the nature and extent of injuries sustained was opened at Otjimbingwe, after Ellis Goabab (48) hit a pedestrian and drove away with a vehicle which is not road worthy.

According to a statement issued by NamPol’s Crime Investigating Coordinator, Erastus Iikuyu, the incident took place on the D-1967 gravel road between Otjimbingwe and Wilhelmstal last week Thursday, around 21:00. Goabab was driving a white Opel Corsa, which is not roadworthy on the gravel road and about 3 km east from Otjimbingwe, the vehicle hit a pedestrian/victim and the suspect drove away and only showed up at the scene at a later stage. The driver was arrested.

The 32-year-old victim was employed as a livestock herder at Willem post in Otjimbingwe area. The victim’s lower left leg fractured in two places and he was rushed to Katutura State Hospital. The suspect was due to appear at the Karibib Magistrate Court yesterday. Investigations continue.
