Swakopmund residents can now add their names to low cost housing waiting list
The Swakopmund municipality has invited residents of Swakopmund, who do not own a house, were never registered and are on no housing waiting list, to have their names placed down for low-cost housing options forming part of the Build-Together scheme. Registration starts on 6 November.
According to Mrs Liezle du Plessis from the municipality, the initial registration for low-cost housing was conducted in 2013. “The Build-Together project was stopped back then, but it was resumed in 2016.
So, we must update our waiting list”, said du Plessis to namib times.
Du Plessis continued: “There is no price range, because even if a person earns a salary of N$25 000 per month, the bank still might not give out a loan. That is why we did not specify a maximum monthly salary”. Registration for the low-cost houses starts on 6 November and will run throughout November, closing on 30 November. It will again resume in 2018 as the registration for low-cost housing is a continuous process.
Residents, who wish to have their names put down for low-cost housing, will be able to participate in future housing programs offered by Council or Government. Registration points are as follows: Tamariskia Town Hall, Meduletu Community Hall and at the Main Municipal building. Residents who have already been registered and whose names already appear on Council’s master waiting list do not need to take part in this registration again.
In order to apply, residents need to bring along a Namibian Identity Document (ID); a marriage certificate and copy of spouse’s ID (if applicable). Married couples are regarded as “one person”, irrespective of marital regime.
Residents must also bring along their voters card as proof of residence in Swakopmund or any document which can proof that you are a resident of Swakopmund; proof of income (salary advice/income statement); proof of the joint income of both spouses will be considered and must be presented by married couples; and if disabled, please submit relevant medical support documents.
