A 17 year old was stabbed in Swakopmund and a 44 year old man commited suicide a few hours before his court appearance in Usakos

On Saturday, 19 November at around 23:00 a seventeen year old boy who was identified as Desmond Garibasen Rinaldo Awarab was stabbed on the left side of his chest with a sharp object at Hero Bar in Mondesa.

According to Chief Inspector Erastus Iikuyu of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in Erongo region, the victim died on the way to Swakopmund State Hospital and it is not clear what caused the stabbing. Iikuyu further said that in connection with the case one suspect, a 31 year old man was detained for questioning. The next of kin of the deceased person were informed. Police investigation continues.
In an unrelated incident, NamPol reported a suicide case at Usakos on 17 November. It is alleged that at about 08:30, the deceased who was identified as Timotheus Gertze, a 44 year old was found hanging from a roof in the garage at a family residence, house no 230 Toerien Street, Bo-dorp suburb in Usakos. Chief Inspector Erastus Iikuyu who confirmed the incident said the deceased used a rope which he tied to the roof to hang himself. No suicide note was left. “The decease is from Rehoboth and arrived in Usakos on 16 November to appear in Usakos Magistrate Court on the day he committed suicide, with three others on a case of stock theft. The case was set for plea and trial. He was out on bail, his next of kin were informed” said Iikuyu.
