Accident victims scammed

Scammers have been selling official vehicle accident claim forms to unsuspecting members of the public at as many as N$250 per claim form. These forms are actually at the disposal of the public at no charge.

The Namibia Motor Vehicle Accident Fund of Namibia (NMVAF) in an urgent press statement on Monday made it categorically clear that these claim forms does not have to be purchased and urged people who were involved in vehicle accidents and who have to claim not to pay for these forms what-soever.
In the statement the NMVAF’s Chief: Corporate Affairs Surihe Gaomas-Guchu said: “The MVA Fund has recently learnt of a new scam making its rounds around state hospitals countrywide, whereby scammers approach people that have been involved in motor vehicle crashes and deceitfully introduce themselves as MVA Fund employees distributing the Fund’s claim forms. It has also come to the Fund’s attention that these forms are sold at a price of N$250.
“We would like to inform the public that these claim forms are not for sale and should refrain from such acts. In normal circumstances, the Fund assigns Case Managers at all its Service Centres to conduct daily hospital vi-sits and assist people who were involved in crashes by distributing the claim forms at no cost, whilst explaining the claim process. This process is part of the MVA Fund’s Case Management procedures which are in-line with the Fund’s Act.10 of 2007,” said MVA Fund’s Chief Corporate Affairs, Surihe Gaomas-Guchu.
In the bid to ensure a smooth and efficient claims process administration and accessi-bility to its claim forms, the Fund distributes its forms at some regional Nampost offices, State Hospitals and all of its Service Centres in Windhoek, Otjiwarongo, Walvis Bay, Ongwediva, Keetmanshoop, Katima Mulilo and Rundu.
“All the forms are distributed at no cost and anyone who comes across someone selling these forms should not purchase them and must immediately re-port this fraudulent activity on the Fund’s Anti-Fraud number: 081 155 0505,” said Gaomas-Guchu”.
