Africa Shield Three Phase Event

Teams from Namibia, South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana gathering at Duneside Equestrian Centre outside Gobabis for a weekend of competition featuring the Africa Shield Three Phase Event and the Sanlam Eventing Series.

Inspection of the newly-built cross country course by the officials under the watchful eye of FEI technical delegate Douglas Welsh, the veterinary inspection of horses and the Team Draw will take place on Friday.  Eventers will start the three-phase competition generously sponsored by Toyota and Feedmaster with the dressage phase early on Saturday morning. The Cross Country Phase will be ridden on Saturday afternoon with the concluding show-jumping phase (FEI course builder Cord Cordes) set for Sunday morning. FEI Stewards for the event are Christiane Hass and Lien de Wit.
A group of spirited youngsters make up the Namibian Shield Team. They are Danika Gogol (Charming Gale) and Daniela Imhof (Rolling Thunder) from Windhoek, Laura Jakob (Kiara) from Otjiwarongo and Emily Braune (Baron von Sphinxblick) from Swakopmund.
The South African Team is made up of Tamara van Vuuren (Levi), Chane Smit (Carlisle’s Anuk), Casey-Leigh Smit (Flika Speed) and Adrienne Macdonald Hutcheson (Waterford Flash).
The Zimbabwean Team of Amber Morris, Kylie Wright, Katie Loubser and Erin Elliot will take part on Namibian loan horses.
Apart from the Shield Event, the 15 Namibian riders taking to the track over 80 cm will also seek to garner points for the newly introduced Sanlam Eventing Series. The event kicks off with an Endurance Ride on Thursday featuring teams from Namibia and neighbouring Botswana.
