Amnesty period to settle municipal bills

The town council of Walvis Bay has approved an amnesty period until 31 December, for residents to settle outstanding debt with the municipality of Walvis Bay. Interest on these outstanding amounts will be written off.

In a report submitted to Council it was indicated that a prior amnesty period that ended in April 2020 resulted in both residential and business ratepayers settling outstanding debt to the tune of N$2 476 million, resulting in approximately N$500 000 in interest reversed.
The highest amount settled by a single residential customer during the mentioned amnesty period was N$178 000 and a single business customer settled a bill in arrears of N$71 299.
The municipality of Walvis Bay aims to get more residents to settle bad debt during the amnesty period which will commence very soon (date to be announced) until 31 December this year.
