APS gives cricket development major boost
Africa Personnel Services announced its sponsorship to Cricket Namibia for the development of young cricket talent. The announcement was made in Windhoek this week at the start of the recent T20 Development Tournament.
The APS U/15 T20 Tournament is made up of four teams: the APS Lions, Wolves, Cheetahs and Rhinos which battle it out for the APS Trophy which was be presented to the winning Lions team. A total of 50 boys took part in the tournament which concluded last Sunday.
The President of Cricket Namibia, Mr Richard Frankle, thanked the tournament title sponsors Mr Robert de Villiers and his wife Annemarie.
He further extended his appreciation to the supporting parents, coaches, officials and Exco Committee members. Mr Frankle applauded APS for the initiative in investing in cricket development and described it as “a boost” for the country.
In October this year, APS celebrates its 21st anniversary. “What better way of celebrating a 21st birthday than giving this huge present to cricket development in Namibia”, said Frankle. The sponsorship amounted to N$250 000 and covered the cost of the tournament.
The Managing director for APS, Mr Robert de Villiers, at the start of the tournament said cricket development will go a long distance in keeping young talent constructively occupied through sport.
Not only does it promote health and a positive outlook on life, but also keeps youngsters away from evils like substance abuse threatening Namibia’s social fabric.
The winners of the first APS U15 T20 Cricket Development Tournament were:
1st – APS Lions
2nd runner up- APS Cheetahs
3rd runner up – APS Wolves
