Austrian national commits suicide by shooting in Swakop

Last week Friday around 09:00 Ernst Haimo Tatschek (75), an Austrian national with permanent residence status in Namibia was found dead in his living room at Estorf Street 7 Swakopmund. This is the seventh suicide by shooting recorded in Swakopmund this year.
It is suspected that, the deceased shot himself in the chest with a revolver which was found next to him by a family nurse. Detective Inspector Daniel Gurirab of Nampol who confirmed the incident, said: “According to information received, the deceased was suffering from an undisclosed illness for a long period of time and he previously tried to commit suicide but did not succeed”. No foul play is suspected.
The deceased was certified dead on the spot by a medical doctor. The body of the deceased has been taken to the Police Morgue for post mortem purposes. The deceased’s next of kin have not yet been traced or informed as the deceased has no families in Namibia. The search is on to trace the family while investigations continue.
