Bail of N$1 500 for Plat am Meer rock lobster harvester

34-year old Johannes Alfeus who is accused of illegally harvesting ten rock lobster on Saturday at the new waterfront in Vineta (Platz am Meer) was granted bail of N$1 500 in the Swakopmund magistrates court on Monday.

Magistrate Conchita Olivier remanded the matter to 23 October for plea. State prosecutor Paulus Shilongo did not oppose bail. Alfeus said he will conduct his own defense.
The accused has been charged with illegally harvesting rock lobster during a closed season. He was apprehended on Saturday evening at about 23:00, allegedly in the possession of ten rock lobster. Some were also under size.
He was allegedly using a net.
Two other fishermen who were allegedly catching barbels the same evening at the Waterfront were only given verbal warnings.
