Basketball ends fourth

The Namibian 3×3 women’s National Basketball team ended with a fourth-place finish at the African Beach Games in Sal, Cape Verde.

This was history for the NBF as it was the first attempt at an international Basketball event for the Namibian ladies at the games. This was between 14 and 23 June and catered for 11 sports codes, one of which 3×3 basketball contested by 20 nations.
The Namibian team consisting of Sylvia Sawahenga, Sarah Severus, Gie Mukumbuta and Victoria Netumbo ranked second in the individual shooting, played seven games, won three and lost four for 78 points and a fourth position.
The competition was won by Mali with a whopping 114 points, followed by Togo on 98 points while Nigeria claimed third spot with 90 points.
The ladies who are proud of their achievement said that they have learnt a lot during their time in Sal and hope to see Namibia participate in more competitive competitions in the coming years.
The first African Beach Games held on the island of Sal in Cape Verde catered for 11 sports codes, 54 countries and 1 000 athletes.
