Bay Air’s office gutted by fire hours before new year

Bay Air Aviation’s office at the Walvis Bay Waterfront was gutted by a fire only hours before the new year. The cause of the fire is yet to be confirmed.

Patrons at Sarah se Gat as well as guests at nearby restaurants noticed smoke coming from the top floor at around 15:30 on Sunday, 31 December. They investigated and found the locked offices in flames. Thanks to prompt reactions, the door was broken down and the fire was extinguished. Apart from fire, heat and smoke damage there was also water damage and all windows were broken. All equipment in the office was also destroyed.
The fire brigade responded to the scene and found the fire already extinguished. They nonetheless carried out an inspection to see if the rest of the businesses in the centre is safe.
