Blood gives life

Blood donation is one of the most significant contributions that can be made towards society. Donating your blood is definitely an act of goodness. Many hospitals and clinics are in constant need of the blood for different purposes. That is why it is a decent idea to donate blood that can help other people.

Namibia Blood Transfusion Services (NamBTS) makes a huge effort year round encouraging the public to donate blood, in the hopes that it can save lives. In many cases, blood is the only ‘medicine’ that can help a patient recover, therefore it is important to ensure that blood is available at all times for patients when needed. Donated blood is divided into 3 different blood products, potentially saving 3 lives with 1 unit. The main blood products are red cell concentrates, which lasts up to 42 days; platelet concentrates, which lasts up to 5 days and fresh frozen plasma, which can last up to 1 year.
If you are medically healthy, between the ages of 16 and 65 years old, weigh more than 50kg and interested in donating blood; find out if you are eligible to donate blood and locate a donation clinic near you. You could save a life.
