Body recovered of man who jumped off the jetty

The body of Heyno Shone Haoseb, the man who jumped off the Swakopmund jetty on 25 June in a suicide incident was recovered on Friday afternoon.
The man’s body was found close to the shore in the vicinity of the Maritime flats. This was confirmed by deputy commissioner Erastus Iikuyu, police regional crime investigations coordinator for Erongo.
According to Iikuyu the body was discovered at around 16:00 on Friday, floating in the sea. “The body was found by a member of the public who was swimming in the area. He notified the police as well as personnel of the Sea Rescue Institute of Namibia (SRIN), who recovered the body,” Iikuyu explained.
The body was taken to Walvis Bay police mortuary where the postmortem examination will be conducted to confirm the cause of death. The body was positively identified by family members.
Haoseb allegedly jumped into the ocean at the jetty in the early morning hours on Sunday (25 June). Initial reports indicated Haoseb had a quarrel with his girlfriend shortly before the incident. He then walked to the jetty with a friend. Both were under the influence of alcohol. According to this friend, Haoseb allegedly walked to the tip of the jetty and jumped into the ocean. The incident occurred at about 04:00 on that day.
At the time of the incident the police, the Sea Rescue Institute of Namibia (SRIN) and members of a security company were called to the scene, but they were not able to see any trace of Haoseb due to bad visibility. It was still dark and the mist was lying very low at the time.
