Brave Gladiators draws opening game at COSAFA Champs

The Namibian senior women’s team, the Brave Gladiators, yesterday in their opening Group C game played to a 0-0 draw against East African guest nation Uganda at the 2021 COSAFA Cup that are under way in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

The brave Gladiators will play their next group game against Zambia on this coming Sunday, 3 October and finish their pool against Eswatini on Tuesday 5 October.
Head coach Nicholas ‘Woody’ Jacobs strongly believes the Gladiators have the quality to do well in the tournament.
Jacobs said” Our team has quality players I believe can steal the show and highlight themselves to women football in the region and the tournament. I am sure they will come through for the country.”
The championships kicked off on 28 September, and will end on 9 October in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
The Brave Gladiators that will do duty for the country are
Goalkeepers: Agnes Kauzuu, Melissa Matheus, Sussana Eises.
Defenders: Selma Enkali, Emma Naris, Iina Katuta, Lovisa Mulunga, Lydiana Nanamus, Veronica Van Wyk, Nicole Philander, KamunikireTjituka.
Midfielders: Annouschka Kordom, Milicent Hikuam, Memory Ngonda, Shanice Diaries, Asteria Angula, Tueli-kondjela Amukoto.
Forwards: Stella Williams, Kylie Van Wyk, Anna-Marie Shikusho, Beverly Ueziua, Thomalina Adams, Juliana Blou, Fiola Vliete, Gaironeeza Maclobo.
In the meantime the Young Gladiators lost 3-0 to Burundi in the FIFA Women U20 World Cup Qualifiers last Saturday at the Urukundo Stadium in Burundi.
The Young Gladiators will host Burundi in the second leg on 7 October 2021 in Dobsonville, Johannesburg, South Africa. The aggregate winner will progress to the third round of the qualifiers. There are five rounds in the African leg of the qualifiers with only two sides going through to the World Cup finals in Costa Rica.
