Bumper Harvest

Walvis Bay resident Mr Nelis Dreyer has reason to be proud of his mini olive grove on his property in the lagoon suburb of the harbour town.

The mini-grove consists of twenty two olive trees from which a total of 800kg of olives were harvested this year. “There were some of the trees that gave us 65kg of olives”, explained a delighted Mr Dreyer. Adding, under normal an olive tree can produce 35kg of olives per season.
The harvested olives is destined for the olive press and is expected to yield 90 litres of olive oil.
The trees were planted some twelve years ago. Although production was sufficient every year, 2019 delivered a bumper harvest. Mr Dreyer’s grove consists of the mission- and frantoio olive tree.
