Cancer association raises awareness
The Cancer Association of Namibia held a national cancer walk Saturday to raise awareness and funds. This was the third fundraiser for children fighting cancer in Namibia for this year. September is Children’s Awareness Month.
The walk which began at Super Spar Swakopmund saw many new participants, including many young individuals walk past the Strand Hotel through to the Tug restaurant, with the finish line at the National Marine Aquarium.
The event organiser Celeste De Klerk said: “we were lucky to have two sponsors this time around”. The Tug restaurant and Strand Hotel sponsored the walk and provided water points along the way. “We are very grateful to them”, reiterated De Klerk, who also mentioned that this year’s event brought together new faces and first-time participants.
A total of N$10900 was raised at the event and will be used to support the association’s interim homes that look after cancer patients.
