Christmas elephant is back

The coast’s Christmas elephant is back. After a temporary absence after first spotted near Swakopmund over the festive days of 2019, it was spotted near Langstrand on Sunday.

Game wardens guided the elephant back towards the Swakop River on Sunday. It was later spotted in the Rossmund area. The elephant was collared some weeks ago in the Omaruru River after initially guided from Swakopmund northwards towards the Ugab River.

The latest news from the Ministry of Environment and Tourism publicly announced that it was decided to let the young bull elephant stay and settle in the Swakop river. The Ministry reports that the elephant is peaceful and has no signs of aggression.
