Coastal swimmers at Long Course Gala
A total number of 138 swimmers from seven teams are participating in the fourth Bank Windhoek Long Course Gala that will be held today and tomorrow (25-26 January) at the Olympia Swimming Pool in Windhoek.
According to the Namibia Swimming Association’s executive committee member, Nicky McNamara, visiting teams from Cape Town (Dolphins-WP) and Germany (Club TsV Hohenbrunn-Riemerl) will be participating against the Namibian swimmers. This is going to give the competition extra flair.
“We are also excited to see that the Master swimmer’s participation has also increased. Our NASU President Wilfried Poser will also be participating in two 50-meter events,” McNamara said.
The first events will start later this afternoon with the 800-meter Free-style and tomorrow morning the 1500-meter Freestyle event, in which not only the young athletes participate but also quite a few Master swimmers.
“These are long distances and the swimmers competing in these events have an exceptionally high fitness level. Many of the swimmers trained through-out the December holiday to maintain their level of fitness and those who were unable to train will definitely feel the distances after the weekend,” McNamara added.
“NASU would like to thank Bank Windhoek for its continued sup-port and development of the sport, which has produced top inter-national competitors over the years,” McNamara concluded.
