Consumers given 3 months grace period to settle accounts

Consumers with outstanding debt with the Swakopmund Council have until 31 March 2022 to make arrangements in order to settle these accounts. On 21 October this year, it was discovered that residents owe the council N$100 107 389.86.
This item was discussed during the recent and last council meeting for 2021. During a special council meeting on 21 October 2021, the General Manager of Finance presented an overview of council’s outstanding debts, where after proposals were discussed on strategies as to how the outstanding debts can be recovered.
As per cabinets directive, council may not disconnect water supply to its residents. During the recent council meeting it was recommended that it be noted that the Finance Department is currently busy with debt recovery strategy with internal resources as well as through their debt collectors and council will approve a 10% settlement discount for payment of account balances older than 90 days. If you know you owe council, please make your way to the Swakopmund Municipality as soon as possible so you can avoid disappointment in March next year.
