Contraband Cigarettes Dealers nabbed

Despite the substandard quality, illegal trade of tobacco in Namibia results in the loss of revenue. To curb this illicit trade, cigarettes valued at N$8 000 were allegedly confiscated from a house in Mondesa, Swakopmund earlier this week.

Charged with contravening section 41 & 90 of Customs and Excise Act, Act no. 20 of 1998 Dealing in illicit goods, alternatively possession of Yes cigarettes; Lonia Kaushitwa (36) and Oskary Shilongo (19) were arrested on Monday this week in Masilo Street, Mondesa.
It is believed the cigarettes were illegally imported from Angola. Both Suspects were set to appear before the Swakopmund Magistrate Court on Wednesday this week.
