Councillor Ndemula was involved in accident

It is alleged that on 22 October Councillor Hafeni Ndemula (56) the Councillor for Walvis Bay Urban constituency and Chairman of the Erongo Regional Council was involved in a motor vehicle accident just outside Swakopmund. He was travelling from Arandis to Swakopmund on the B2 route.

According to Chief Inspector Erastus Iikuyu of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in Erongo region who confirmed the incident, it is suspected that Councillor Ndemula misjudged a curve at the circle where the road is under construction when entering Swakopmund and lost control over the white Toyota double cab government vehicle with registration number GRN81712 he was travelling in and the vehicle overturned. Ndemula was seriously injured and rushed to Cottage Medical Practice in Swakopmund. The councillor was travelling with his brother, but his brother was not injured at all. Ndemula was coming from Usakos area distributing drought relieve food to the community. His condition is now described as stable said Iikuyu.
On the same day, while the inspectors were busy with the first accident, Iikuyu said a suspect took a white Toyota double cab with registration number N88699W of a bystander who was a friend that came with him from Arandis who knew councillor Ndemula. According to Iikuyu, the car was left idling by the owner and the suspect drove down Edison Street leaving the owner at the scene. The suspect bumped the vehicle against a truck with registration number N900-913W that was parked next to the road of XCCS. The tanker was empty and no injuries were sustained. Iikuyu said the car was damaged almost beyond repair. The suspect was arrested for drunk and driving and was due to appear in the Swakopmund Magistrate court yesterday.
In another road accident, Iikuyu confirmed that on 19 October a Nissan pick-up with registration number N1421OT carrying ten occupants including the driver was allegedly travelling on the C33 min road from Otjiwarongo on the way to Walvis Bay, it is further alleged that while travelling between Kalkfeld and Omaruru about 5Km towards Omaruru the rear left tyre bursts, the driver of the vehicle lost control over the car and it overturned and rolled twice. One passenger, Elizabeth Hoebes (35) apparently died at the scene and six other passengers sustained moderate to serious injuries and were admitted at Omaruru State Hospital whereby one of them was later transferred to Windhoek for further medical treatment. The driver and other two passengers sustained minor injuries. The next of kin of the deceased person were informed, all this was confirmed by Iikuyu.
