Currie Cup comes to Swakop
Windhoek Draught Welwitschias vs Boland Kavaliers.
On 7 October rugby history is made in Swakopmund when the Windhoek Draught Welwitschias play their last home match against the Boland Kavaliers in the Currie Cup First Division tournament. Th is a big moment for rugby in Swakopmund.
This is the first time that a Currie Cup match is played at the coast. The West Coast Sharks Rugby Club are the hosts for this historic match.
The match will be played at the Swakopmund Central Sports Field. The Windhoek Draught Welwitschias are sixth on the log with 11 points and the Boland Kavaliers in the fifth place with 14 points.
On the same day, there will be a Rugby Clinic for U/11 and U/13 players as well as schools rugby between Pro-Ed Academy and WBPHS. There will also be a Barbarians match between a Swakopmund and Walvis Bay team.
The Windhoek Draught Welwitschias management and players are excited to play at the coast. The players are inviting all their supporters at the coast to support the team at the game. The team will be in Swakopmund on 6 October and the supporters are welcome to meet the players at the Captain’s run at 17:00.
Desiree Coetzee is the manager of the Windhoek Draught Welwitschias for the past two years. She said that for her as a woman to be the manager of a men’s team was a challenge and she and the players had to adapt. She enjoy working with the players and is satisfied with the performance of the team so far.
She looks forward to the future with the team.
