Devon and Judy wins coastal club titles

The SFC Squash club’s annual championship last Friday yielded new winners in both the men’s and women’s categories.

Enthusiastic players entered both divisions in which Jacques Steenkamp and Lientjie Koekemoer, the 2018 title winners, were both unable to play this year due to personal reasons.
The predictions were that the squash family of Devon and Judy Savage would be hard to beat – and that is what happened.
Devon and Judy recently joined the SFC club from South Africa where they compete successfully in the larger tournaments. Devon is a full-time squash coach who focuses his attention on developing future talent.
Devon met the high expectations as he reached the men’s final and beat Wilco Aschenborn with three sets against one. Wynand Labuschagné won the play for third place against Arno Kok.
In the women’s finals, Judy Savage won the SFC Club Championship, with Tessa Rossouw as runner-up and Charné Fourie in third place.
The organizers thank Visions Consulting for its sponsorship of the prizes, as well as SFC’s squash committee that hosted such a memorable tournament.
Squash players are now looking forward to the “064 Cup”, the annual derby for the coastal region between SFC and Buccaneers squash club in October, as well as the Coastal Open in November.
