On 19 January 1903 a public meeting took place in Swakopmund, to discuss the foundation of a volunteer fire brigade. Home owners, as well as owners of business premises, were invited and everyone was requested to make contributions, calculated on the total value of their properties.
That is according to an article by former mayor of Swakopmund Clr. Jörg Henrichsen in namib times in 1986, to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the Swakopmund Fire Brigade.
