Drinking and driving driver remains in custody
Rowan Swartz (22) appeared on charges of driving with an excessive blood alcohol level and escaping from lawful custody. Swartz allegedly crashed the vehicle he was driving into another vehicle and then into a garden wall. He allegedly fled the scene of the accident. The incident occurred in Ocean View on Saturday 18 March.
Deputy Commissioner Ottilie Kashuupulwa, police regional crime in-vestigations co-ordinator for Erongo yesterday confirmed that Swartz was driving a Toyota Corolla with registration number N6596SH on Saturday morning at 05:09 when he failed to stop at a stop sign in Ocean View on Boabab Street. Swartz allegedly hit an Isuzu pick-up and the impact resulted in both cars crashing into the perimeter wall of house number 1619 in Extension 22 of Ocean View.
According to Kashuupulwa, the Toyota Corolla was carrying 3 pas-sengers who escaped injuries. The driver of the Isuzu and his passen-ger were also unhurt.
Swartz sustained minor injuries on the leg and arm and was admitted to hospital. At hospital, he told the police officer who was guarding him that he was going to the toilet. He then he escaped, but he was later apprehended”, Kashuupulwa explained.
A case of drunken driving, malicious damage to property and escape was registered with Nampol. The matter was remanded to 12 April for further investigation and Swartz remains in custody
