Driver dies after crashing stolen car

A case culpable homicide was opened at Karibib police station after the driver lost control of a Toyota pick-up with registration number N78862W he was driving without the owner’s consent, the car overturned and the driver died on the scene.

According to Chief Inspector Erastus Iikuyu of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in Erongo region, it is alleged that an employee at farm Auchabis, Otjimbingwe area, the deceased whose name is known to this paper but cannot be mentioned as his next of kin are not yet informed, and his two co-workers took the car from their workplace while the owner of the car and also farm owner was in Windhoek, without his consent and drove to Otjimbingwe/ Karibib. It is also alleged that the driver was not having a driver’s license. Iikuyu said the date and time the trio took the car from the farm is not yet known. It is further alleged that on 13 November about at about 07:00 while they were returning to the farm on D1953 gravel road about 15 kilometres outside Otjimbingwe towards the southern direction the driver lost control of the vehicle and it overturned. The alleged driver died on the scene. Passenger Festus Kashikanda (37) sustained injuries and was admitted at Usakos State Hospital and the second passenger, Wulfried Windstaan (25) was treated at Usakos hospital for minor injuries and was discharged. Police investigation into this matter continues.
