DULUX PAINTS ROSSMUND RED
Round one of the 2019 Dulux Golf Series Namibia 2019 was played at Rossmund over the past weekend.
The series is contested at each club over Two Rounds in the Stableford format – scores are combined to determine the pairs who will qualify for the final on 31 August at the Omeya GC. A total of 52 players entered the fray.
Weather conditions were hot and humid – later slightly windy but all in all great day for golf – some great golf was played and scores were close at the top of the leader board. As one would imagine the clubhouse was a buzz for prize-giving – with Smittie on hand to officiate. There was a Nearest to the Pin on offer on Number 16 this was won by Helmut Ndjendja.
Winners: 1st: Stuart Salt/Michael Ludeke 46pts, 2nd: Helmut Ndjendja/Justine Shikulo 44pts, 3rd: Tim Botha/Sigi Baumgartner 43pts. Well done to all the players and a big word of thanks to Dulux – remember to hold onto that partner you will need them again for Round 2 on 4 May.
Saturday also saw a large field of juniors teeing up for the Rossmund Junior Open – at the end of the day Willie Els from Walvis Bay was crowned the Champion for 2019.
Sunday 17 February was monthly SAGES day sponsored this time around by Betsie & Tienie van Rensburg from Fischreier B & B with a great selection of liquid refreshments on offer as prizes. A field 0f 20 players were once again up with lark – the day was hot and humid.
Nearest to the Pin on Number 7 went to Tienie van Rensburg whilst Harald Engling took the honours on Number 12.
Winner for the day with an excellent 42pts was Dougie Smith (oh that handicap!!) 2nd Achmet Abrahams 38pts, 3rd Tony Boesch 37pts, 4th Clive Lawrence 36pts and 5th Gerd Vogel 35pts.
Thanks to the sponsors who made sure that in true Sages fashion everyone went home with a bit of something to quench the thirst.
The AGM took place immediately after prize-giving and the following committee was elected for 2019. The new committee is Chairman: Achmet Abrahams, Treasurer: Sigi Baumgartner, Secretary: Lynne van der Walt and the additional Members are Tony Boesch and Gerrhard Byleveldt
Wednesday 13 February we had some breakfast vouchers on offer compliments of Atlantic Villas and a few Valentine Chocolates. There was a good field and as always a great vibe in the clubhouse – most of the “kindergarten” were in good form and produced some good scores.
Pete Bass had the worst back nine of the day whilst our very own “Soutie” (Andrew van Schalkwyk) scored a brilliant 40pts from a 5 H/C to win the 18 Holes; Org van Rensburg was 2nd on 39pts with Stuart Salt cleaning up the 9-hole prize on 19pts. Well played to all and thanks for all the support.
Tomorrow Saturday 23 February will be the Monthly Medal sponsored by Novanam.
