A Walvis Bay resident was shocked when she visited Dune 7 again for the first time in 15 years, describing the utter disappointment when she saw how this once thriving visitors spot degenerated into a disgusting place no one can be proud of.

The person is also an avid reader of Namib Times and took pictures which she provided to the newspaper.
“The pictures show a story of neglect. Dead palm trees are scattered all over the place. No one even cares to remove it”, the woman explained. Adding, “the palm trees still standing are going to die soon, because nobody cares to water it.”
She said she encountered a young man soliciting business for a nearby tourist undertaking by dishing out pamphlets. This young man takes it upon himself to pick up rubbish and sometimes cleaning the toilets to try and keep the place in such a state that visitors don’t simply turn around and drive off without even getting off and spend some time there.
Why is no one looking after Dune 7 anymore? It is very disheartening and such a shame”, the resident told the Namib Times. She also had a word of advice for Walvis Bay residents who frequently visit Dune 7. “From the spent braai fires and pieces of glass from empty alcohol bottles and all the trash there is no doubt that locals visit Dune 7 just as much as foreigners. Keep the place neat and tidy.
Take your rubbish with you and clean behind you. We all need to work together to restore our town’s levels of cleanliness and tidiness. Now, more than ever, a team effort of every resident is needed.”
