End of the line for 500ppm diesel
The process has started to phase out diesel containing 500 parts per million sulphur (500 ppm), the Ministry of Mines and Energy confirmed in a press statement. Namibia will in future only have 50 ppm diesel.
According to the ministry in its statement the phasing out of 500 ppm diesel is in line with the country’s commitment to curb green house emissions. The high sulphur content of 500 ppm diesel is regarded as one of the catalysts of green house emissions and environmental degradation.
According to the ministry 50 ppm diesel will be able to power all diesel cars and machinery in the country, including the older model vehicles and machines.
