End of the road for Eclipse, Paradise and former Little Foot buildings
The old Eclipse and Paradise buildings, located on erf 3777 sandwiched between Mandume Ya Ndemufayo Street and Theo Ben Gurirab Avenue in Swakopmund, were demolished. The unoccupied buildings were home to vagrants and the community believed it to be the hideout for criminals. The buildings were also dilapidated and unsightly.
The demolition of these buildings started about two weeks ago. First the roofs were removed and then the earthmoving machines moved in to demolish the empty brick and mortar shells.
All rubble was also removed and the area looks neat and tidy.
One of the structures that were demolished housed the Little Foot Nursery, but the unoccupied structures soon became a place for street kids to live and criminals to hide out.
The erf, which is now in the hands of a private developer, was initially earmarked to form part of the Bahnhof Square development, which up to now only remains an idea on paper.
