Erongo Boxer shines

Erongo Boxing Federation (EBF) participated with a 12 man Boxing team at 2018 Kamunu National Boxing Championship that were held from 30 August -02 September in Katima Mulilo.

 The EBF shined in Katima as their boxers scooped 7 Gold, 1 Silver and 4 Bronze medals at the championships. Joy Nangolo of Erongo region was the best junior boxer of championship. We scope with price of trophy and N $5000 and all winners walk away with N$500 in price money.

Team Manager Bernhard Kamatoto said “We at the Federation are extremely excited about the achievements of our Boxers and the road ahead for boxing in Erongo Region looks bright. The Federation however need financial assistance and therefore ask the business community in the Region for their help.”

“For the past years Khomas Region dominated boxing in Namibia but the new leaders in the Erongo Boxing arena are pleased to say that Erongo Boxing is back to dominate Box in Namibia” he added.

The new leadership of the Erongo Boxing Federation were faced with a financial challenge to get funds for their team to Katima Mulilo. They took the team to the championships with their own money as there was no assistance from the Office of the Governor or the Regional Sport Office.

Kamatoto said that seven boxers from the Erongo Region will have the opportunity to qualify for Olympics games, all African Championship and the Commonwealth Games but the Federation need financial assistance for these boxers to train and participate in National and International events to prepare for these events.
