Final Olympics Qualifier

Women’s Outdoor National Hockey Team to play in the Final Olympics Qualifier in Spain.

After winning the African Open Series held from 7-9 December 2018 in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, Namibia has qualified to play in one of the three final qualifiers for the 2020 Olympic Games to be hosted in Tokyo, Japan.
Only three countries namely the host Zimbabwe, Zambia and Namibia took part in the women’s completion while Zimbabwe, Namibia Zambia and Egypt competed in the men’s section of the Open Series held last December in Bulawayo. Namibian women won the woman section while the Egyptian men were victorious in the men section.
Namibia will thus progress to play in one of the three final Qualification Tournaments to be held in Valencia, Spain 19-27 June 2019.
The other two qualification tournaments will be held in Dublin, Ireland on 8-16 June 2019 and Hiroshima, Japan 15-23 June 2019 respectively.
Namibia will compete in a tough pool against countries that are ranked higher than her: Spain (7), South Africa (15), Italy (17), Belarus (20), Canada (21), Wales (26) and Thailand (28). Namibia is ranked 60th in the world in the outdoor competition and 11th in the world in the Indoor competition. Our aim in the outdoor completion in the next five years, is to improve on the African and World rankings, qualify for the 2020 Olympics and qualify for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham
