Firefighters from all over train in Swakopmund
20 Firefighters from various local authorities all over Namibia are on a training course at the Swakopmund Fire Brigade until tomorrow.
As part of the basic firefighting offered the firemen had to do a search-and-rescue operation in a house yesterday and extinguish an open fire. Some old tyres were set alight on the premises of the fire station. “We trained them on fighting the flames against the wind,” said Fire Chief Adri Goosen.
The training was offered by the Ministry of Urban & Rural Development. According to Frederika Shigwedha, Chief Administrator Officer of Disaster Risk Management in the Ministry this type of training will now be offered continuously. “Such a refresher course is important for these people,” she said to namib times. “You never know what disaster might come next.” The training will conclude today.
