Hopes for an accident-free festive holi-day season are shattered. A mother and her two-year-old son died in a gruesome accident on Tuesday on the B2 between Usakos and Arandis. A black GTi Golf overtook another vehicle on a blind crest and slammed head-on into a Toyota pick-up. The force of the collision tore the Golf in two. The pick-up was also left a write-off.
The two-year-old, King Lion Schiefer, died on the scene. The deceased boy’s mother, 30-year-old Leonie Camm died upon arrival at the hospital.
The driver of the Golf was identified as Leon Schiefer (43) who is the deceased boy’s father. Another passenger in the Golf was only slightly injured and was identified as 15-year- old Sharné Majiedt.
Charges of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving are formulated against the driver Schiefer.
According to Detective Chief Inspector Daniel Gurirab, the driver of the Toyota bakkie, Jaco Smith (45), sustained slight injuries whilst his passenger, Cornelius McDonald, sustained serious injuries.
All injured passengers were transported to Usakos State Hospital. Below: pictures taken at the scene of the accident.
