Fisheries Minister seeks N$250m budget allocation
Namibia’s Fisheries Minister Bernhard Esau this week submitted his Ministry’s budget for the 2019/20 financial year, telling the National Assembly he needs N$250 million to carry out his mandate.
In his address to the National Assembly, Esau explained approximately N$229 million would be needed to fund the ministry’s operations. An estimated 71 % of this N$229 million operational budget would be allocated to personnel expenses.
Esau assured parliamentarians that Namibia’s fishing industry remains strong and vibrant. The Industry produced N$10 billion in fish and fisheries products in the 2018/19 financial year and after mining fisheries is Namibia’s second largest foreign exchange earner.
