Four poachers arrested
Four suspected poachers were arrested by the Police at a roadblock near Swakopmund early yesterday morning. Four oryx carcasses, two springbok carcasses and a shotgun were confiscated.
The animals were shot in the Namib Naukluft Park, according to a police spokesperson. The arrests were made at 00:30 on Monday, after a tip-off was received from the public. After receiving the information, police officials set up a road block and soon a Toyota pick-up with the registration mark N21313S was pulled over.
“We found a shotgun and believe it was used to kill the game. The four suspects’ age range was given as between 35 to 57.
The accused will make a first appearance in the Swakopmund magistrate’s court today. Their identities are known to the newspaper and will be published in Friday’s edition.
