Freak accident at car wash – boy dies

A seventeen-year-old boy was crushed by a vehicle against a wall in Swakopmund’s Mondesa suburb on Sunday afternoon, resulting in his death hours later at the town’s state hospital.

Rashid Somseb was helping out at a car wash. A taxi driver brought his vehicle in for a clean. He was requested to drive the vehicle onto the wash bay. Somseb was standing in front of the vehicle giving directions.
It is suspected the driver pressed down the vehicle’s accelerator instead of the brakes. The vehicle darted forward, hit Sombseb and pinned him to the wall behind him.
Despite efforts by medical personnel they could not save Somseb’s life.
