Slain Swakopmund resident Lindie Prinsloo’s killer, her boyfriend Ivan Pitt, was found dead in the couple’s home yesterday after being on the run from the Police since Friday. Pitt is believed to have ended his own life by hanging himself in the garage of the home at number 15, Harder Street, Vineta.

With both Prinsloo (39) and Pitt (29) dead, the only hopes for the loved ones of the couple is a suicide note. At the time of going to press it was not yet certain whether Pitt left a suicide note. The grim puzzle remains incomplete. What happened on Friday behind the closed doors of house number 15, Harder Street, Vineta?
Prinsloo was found dead in a pool of blood on the bathroom floor. She had a gaping cut wound to her throat. Pitt allegedly left the house which he and Prinsloo shared on Friday afternoon in a white Rio Kia (N 1556 S). The vehicle belongs to Prinsloo.
What is certain is that Prinsloo was the clutches of an abusive relationship with Pitt in the final months of her life. She made several posts on social media in recent months which in the aftermath of the tragedy which might cast some light into her life in one house with Pitt.
“Everyone wants a strong woman until she actually stands up, flexes her muscles, projects her voice. Suddenly, she is too much. She has forgotten her place. You love those women as ideas. Fantasies. Not as breathing, living hu-mans threatening to be even better than you could ever be”, reads one of her posts on her Facebook profile. In fact, there are several posts striking a similar tone.
The tragedy started to unfold on Friday after-noon when Prinsloo’s body was discovered on Friday afternoon by her young daughter.
Within hours after the discovery the Namibian Police had Pitt identified as a person of interest in the murder investigation.
By Friday night a manhunt was launched for Pitt by the Police, neighbourhood watch groups and security companies. Pitt is reported to have relatives at Henties Bay and at Omaruru and law enforcement agencies there are also on the lookout for him.
As the weekend progressed, Namibians vent their anger and frustration over this latest gender-based killing. People in their thousands took it to social media – urging Namibian men to change their abusive behaviour towards women. Also, for the judicial system to deal more decisively with gender based offenders and those targeting vulnerable people in our society.
As news sites reported throughout the weekend that there was no success in apprehending Pitt, frustrations and anger only mounted.
However, on Monday the curtain dropped on the tragedy when an estate agent discovered Pitt’s body in the garage of the murder house. Pitt ended his life by hanging. It is suspected Pitt drove back to the house some time on Saturday. He pulled the vehicle back into the garage from where he left on Friday and then ended his life.
