Fun in the sun at Henties

Young and old flocked to Henties Bay on 26 December for the annual Touch Rugby, Fishing Bonanza and Miss Touchies beauty contest.
The event attracts an ever more increasing number of spectators every year. The entertainment and fun are on offer for everyone and has surpassed holiday revellers expectations. The day has also attracted many sportsmen and women that participated in the tough but fun competitions.
The Touchies
The annual rugby touchies tourney with 15 teams competing, lived up to expectations as a fun-filled holiday event at the coast and produced some fast-paced and hard-running matches.
The tournament was played in a friendly but a competitive spirit. Both finals were closely con-tested affairs with the teams requiring extra time to settle matters.
“C&E Engineering” emerged as the kings of the beach as they defeated “Die Ouens” 1-0 in the cup final. The winners of the plate final, the Barbarians beat Total se Petrol joggies 1-0. Ruan Daniels was named player of the tournament.
Fishing Bonanza
The annual angling bonanza delivered loads of entertainment with at least 1 100 anglers who participated in the 31st Fishing Bonanza organised by the Henties Bay Angling Club and the Penguin Angling Club of Swakopmund. The highlight of the major angling event was the weighing and prize presentation.
Cornè Lottering won the main prize with his Bonanza fish of 18.6 kg and bagged himself a cash amount of N$31 000.

Miss Touchies
Twenty-one girls competed in the Junior, Teen and Miss Touchies competition with the beauties from Walvis Bay beauty reigns supreme.
Asnee Miller (18), from Walvis Bay was crowned as Miss Touchies 2018. Nelmari Louw (20), from Cape Town as her first princess and Tharine Bergh (18), from Windhoek crowned as the second princess.
Nina-Marie Retief (16), from Grootfontein was crowned as Miss Teen Touchies. Shakira Berges (15), from Walvis Bay as the first princess and Venia van der Merwe (16), from Kempton Park, South Africa as the second princess.
Laliq Adams (6), from Windhoek was crowned as Miss Junior Touchies. Danel Du Toit (10), from Windhoek as the first princess and Lulu Venables (4), from Henties Bay as the second princes.
