Golf action from Rossmund

We are happy to announce that the Rossmund GC is once again up and running and various formats of the game were played over the past few weeks.

The Club held its Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 27 January – the 2020 Committee was re-elected with Chris Heunis coming on board as a new member.
The J & B Estates Betterball Stableford format was played on Saturday 16 January 2021 at the Rossmund Golf Course. Thank you to Andrew van Schalk-wyk for coming on board and presenting the great day of golf with two clubs coming from Fritz Coetzee Jr, George Murasiki, Chris Heunis and Gerhard Byleveld. The overall scores were really close with Willie van Zyl/Kevin Wentzel 45 points as the winners, 2nd. Marco Swarts/Justine Shikulo 44 points count out over Fanie Terblanche/Andrew van schalkwyk. Well played guys and thanks again to the sponsor.

The start of the 2021 Novanam Monthly Medal Tournament was on 23 January. The field consisted of over 30 players which is excellent for medal. Weather conditions were hot & humid to say the least but this did not seem to affect our “die hard” golfers from showing their mettle and producing some brilliant results. Kevin Wentzel came out on top shooting a 3 under par round – 69 gross, well played Kevin. Whilst, Thomas Shitaleni and Dean Kock produced the only two-clubs on the day. Overall Medal Winner: Kevin Wentzel 67nett; “A” Div: Hans Naobeb 69nett (c/o); “B” Div: Dean Kock 67nett; “C” Div: Theo Saunderson 75nett; Ladies: Helga Engling 86nett. We are so grateful for their ongoing support of this prestigious tournament and to feast on the excellent catch of the day prizes that are always on offer.
The first Sages Competition for this year at Rossmund sponsored by the Swakopmund Plaza Hotel was played on 24 January. The sponsor was represented by GM Johan Kok– who also played a round with the “ou toppies”. Oom Tienie van Rensburg was the only 2-cluber. Overall Winner on an excellent 41pts was John Redman (handicap handicap bi bi); 2nd: Des Benson 37pts; 3rd: Tony Boesch 35pts. Well done to all the early birds – I heard via the grapevine that one early bird did not catch the worm. Ssshhh J
A good field of golfers getting their heads around the Club sponsored Bogey Plus Competition on 31 January – this format always leads to some fun and games. There were three 2-clubs coming from Gert Cloete; Mark Jacobs and Athol McLean. The winner on the day was our current Lady Captain winning a count out on +4 over newly elected committee member Chris Heunis- third place went to Kevin Wentzel whose golf seems to be on a roll at the moment.
