Gymnast worked very hard
Rudi Bowe
The Swakopmund Gymnastics Club (SGC) is situated at the Swakopmund Indoor Sports Centre, generally known as The Dome, and offers a variety of disciplines to children who enjoy a challenge.
Although all of the gymnasts have worked very hard during the year, the following are SGC gymnasts of the highest level and excellent examples for all the aspiring champions at the club.
Elisbe Swanepoel was, until the end of 2017, actively part of SGC, has then moved to South Africa to attend school there, and she joined a gymnastics club in the Cape. To be able to represent Namibia in international competitions, she is still a registered gymnast at SGC. She participated at the Gym-star Women’s Artistic International Competition in Malta, and won a total of four medals, gold on uneven bars, silver on floor, bronze for vault, bronze overall. She also participated for Western Province at the South African Games and won 5 medals, gold for floor, beam and vault, and bronze for bars, as well as a silver medal overall.
Emile Pitt is a pure product of SGC.
As one of the gymnasts from the Dongina Risser Gymnastics Foundation, (DRGF – who identifies and sponsors previously disadvantaged children in the sport of gymnastics) he absolutely excelled this year. As a Junior Olympic gymnast, he participated at the African Championship in Swakopmund held earlier this year and won a gold medal on vault.
Then he went on to participate at the All African Youth Games in Algeria, where he again won a gold medal on vault, as well as a silver medal on floor establishing himself as the African Junior Vault Champion.
Maddie & Josie Wheeling also represented Namibia at the African Championships in Swakopmund. They did really well for their first International Competition.
Jocelynn Mungunda, Amorencia Campbell and Amelie Petrick have been selected to represent the Namibian Gymnastics Federation at the Region V Championships in beginning November in South Africa.
Our Gymnasts received at the National Championships for Artistic Gymnastics and Trampoline 25 Gold Medals, 22 Silver Medals and 22 Bronze Medals.
