Historic moment for father and son

Allan Martin and his son Zachary Martin participated in the 1st round of the Namibian Rally Championship kicked off in the Eastern town of Gobabis.

Allan Martin said “What started as a fun family outing turned into a historic moment for father, son and team JP Hydraulics and that this is the biggest achievements in my rally career, to share the podium with my son.
With his heavily underpowered VW Polo S2000 begging for mercy, Allan put every foot right through the twisty bits to make up for time lost on the longer and faster sections finishing in a well deserved 2nd pace overall and 1st in class S4.
The surprise of the event came when the results were posted and Zachary had quietly sneaked onto the podium with a brilliant drive to 3rd overall and 1st in class S1 in his 1600 Golf Mk1.
“This was a 1st in Namibian rally history where father and son appeared on the podium driving separate cars and both winning their respective classes” Allan added.

Allan said that the stakes were very high for both drivers as overnight rain turned the roads into an unpredictable and slippy affair but both drivers held their own.

Allan put in one of his best performances to date in a car that would not go above 150 kph whilst Zachary did a brilliant job side stepping 30cm deep ruts and not getting stuck all the while maintaining a good pace.

Brilliant driving from both drivers and job well done to their co-drivers Melvin Gous and Michael Strydom and pit crew who held their own on what could be described as one hell of a tough event.

Allan thanked their co-drivers Melvin Gous and Michael Strydom JP Hydraulics Racing Team for their endless support.
