Hit by vehicle at fish factories

Cases of reckless and or negligent driving and drunken driving were opened against a driver who over-took and slammed into a car and then into a pavement hitting a pedestrian.

It is alleged Wayne McGuire (29) was driving in Ben Amathila Street towards the naval base and wanted to make a left turn. As McGuire was turning left, Eino Namene (59) allegedly tried to overtake the vehicle and a collision ensued. The force of the collision catapulted Namene’s vehicle over the pavement and it hit a pedestrian. The pedestrian was later identified as Florence Simasiku who suffered severe head injuries.
Simasiku’s was evacuated to Windhoek for medical treatment.
Adding to Namene’s woes is the fact that he also tested positive for alcohol when traffic officials carried out alcohol breathalyser tests on both drivers. He now faces charges of reckless and negligent driving as well as drunken driving.
