Illegal hunting in Namib Naukluft Park

Three suspects used a rented white Toyota pick-up from Walvis Bay to transport the carcasses of three oryx they poached in the Namib Naukluft Park.

The three suspects were arrested on Monday (15 October) in the Namib Naukluft Park, at around 13:38.

They were identified as Matheus Oxurub (57), Michael Gonteb (28) and Jimmy Gonteb (28). They were transporting the carcasses without a permit and they were in possession of an unlicenced firearm.

The rental Toyota pickup was impounded. The value of the three oryx carcasses is N$19 500-00. The suspects appeared in court on Wednesday on a charge of the illegal hunting of game and the illegal possession of a firearm. Also, for the transport of meat without a permit.
