Johnny Doeseb heads NCCI Walvis Bay
New blood is flowing through the veins of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry Walvis Bay branch, following an election on Thursday of a new committee entirely made up of newcomers. The Chamber has been under heavy criticism in recent months for not delivering to standards and sidelining smaller business people from previously disadvantaged groups.
Businessmen Johnny Doeseb has been elected President of the NCCI Walvis Bay and Vihlo Nevonga elected as Vice President. Stalwarts John Savva, Tony Raw and Danny Beukes who served several terms on the previous committees have respectively been elected as additional members or serving on a subcommittee to assist the new Committee to gain experience in the day to day running of the Chamber.
An announcement of the new committee, additional members and subcommittee was made at a press conference yesterday. In introducing himself Doeseb pledged to increase the Chamber’s prominence as service provider to the business community, encourage and grow small and medium sized businesses and support upcoming business-people with training and capacity building.
Doeseb further welcomed an effort by the NCCI Walvis Bay to finalise its overdue annual financial statements, as this in the past lured criticism over the level of transparency of the Chamber’s affairs.
