Karibib earthquake measured 3.4 on Richterscale

An earthquake measuring 3.4 on the Richterscale was recorded on Tuesday (26 April) at 12:59:58 South of Karibib. This data was released by the Geological Survey of Namibia. The shaking earth was felt by some residents of both Karibib and Usakos.

According to the Geological Survey the earthquake occurred at a depth of ten kilometers. It was picked up by three stations: Windhoek, Ariamsvlei and Tsumeb. The recorded data indicate that it lasted for about 15 seconds.
Minor earthquakes of such a “low” magnitude are common worldwide, with more than 100 000 occurring annually. They can be felt by people, but very rarely cause damages. The shaking of indoor objects can be noticed.
