Killer in court

The man who slit his girlfriend’s throat during a domestic dispute in Kuisebmond in Walvis Bay over the weekend made a first appearance in the Walvis Bay magistrate’s this week.

Hafeni Phillipus Haihambo (54) is accused of having killed his girlfriend, Otillie Mwateuvi Hanguwo (36) in the couple’s ghetto in Kuisebmond’s 21st Street.
This latest incident of gender-based violence has been widely condemned this week. Namibian men need to change their behaviour towards women and other vulnerable groups like children and the elderly, an enraged member of the public said on Tuesday during Haihambo’s first court appearance.
The case against the accused has been remanded to 30 October when it is expected he would launch a formal bail application.
